Awkward Parenting Moment

Number 2908

My toddler tends to be on the shy side. I have been pushing her to be more vocal to the outside world. Recently, walking through Target, she decided to find her voice. We were on line to check out and she approached the cashier who looked miserable. My child decided to say, "Good morning," and was completely ignored. As a normal toddler would, mine became frustrated and repeated herself until the woman finally gave her a look. After that, my child screamed, "How rude! Mommy she is so rude!"

As much as I wanted to crawl up into a ball and hide, she was right. There is a lack of basic communication skills in the outside world. We live in our bubbles on social media, hiding from life. I was proud and embarrassed, all at the same time. I can't teach others to be polite but I can show my child what not to be. (A target cashier). Needless to say, I'll be shopping at a new target the next time I want to get lost in a store for awhile until I think it's been long enough that the workers may have forgotten about us.
